About Soleil Saint Lucia Summer Festival
In 2017, Saint Lucia launched an ambitious initiative – a Summer of Festivals – aimed at bringing tangible and lasting economic, social and cultural benefits to the country and its people. Building on Saint Lucia’s outstanding artistic talent and rich cultural heritage and on its experience in designing and hosting unique events and celebrations such as the Saint Lucia Jazz Festival, Carnival or Jounen Kwéyòl, this new initiative will increase the benefits that Festivals and similar events bring to Saint Lucian communities and to society as a whole, while optimising the impact of public expenditure and improving efficiency.
This new Season of Festivals will:
- stimulate economic development by increasing tourism arrivals over a longer period of time (May to October), by creating more opportunities for local artists and businesses, and by enhancing the overall visibility of Saint Lucia as a unique tourism destination;
- contribute to cultural and artistic development by promoting and nurturing local talent, facilitating the growth of Saint Lucian and Caribbean artists, and providing quality and uplifting cultural and artistic experiences;
- build national pride and enhance social cohesion by providing moments and spaces where Saint Lucians can celebrate, and share with others, their unique culture and talents;
- adhere to and promote high production, environmental and safety standards.
About Blues Festival
An encounter between genres of music that are rooted in folk traditions, with the musician serving as a storyteller and expressing the emotions, struggles and hopes of real people. This festival reflects the richness, diversity and modernity of these musical styles.
About Arts & Heritage Month
Building on the celebration of Creole Day, which began in Saint Lucia in 1981, this month-long Festival is a celebration of the richness and diversity of Saint Lucia’s cultural, ethnic and artistic heritage. With musical, theatrical and other performances, with seminars and lectures, with varied culinary experiences, with street parties and with art exhibitions, this Festival culminates on the final weekend of October with a celebration of International Creole Day in designated communities (selected on the basis of clear criteria and provided with adequate guidance and support), and marks the end of Soleil Saint Lucia Summer of Festival.
About Saint Lucia Carnival
With the Parades of the Bands in July, several competitions (including Calypso Monarch, Power and Groovy Monarch, Senior and Junior Panoramas, Inter-commercial House Calypso), dozens of community events, many parties and fetes, this is a very special celebration of Caribbean history, culture and creativity. Under the leadership of the Cultural Development Foundation and in collaboration with all stakeholders, Carnival has become an even more vibrant and creative event. Activities begin in June and culminate the 3rd weekend in July.
About Roots & Soul
A festival dedicated to musicians who are setting new trends in reggae, conscious hip-hop, Afropunk and R&B, with performances, master classes and encounters between artists and other actors in the music business. Like Saint Lucia Jazz, there are free and paying concerts, in various parts of the island, again culminating at the Pigeon Island National Landmark. This event includes a professional marketplace that brings together musicians, record labels, online music stores and platforms, specialised journalists and other actors in order to enhance market access for Saint Lucian and other musicians and producers.
